  • Household debt has more than doubled in the past nine years from $5.2 trillion in 1996 to $11.5 trillion in 2005 according to the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.

Depleting Social Security
  • There is no assurance that Social Security will be around when you retire. With Baby Boomers heading toward retirement coupled with increased longevity of life (thanks to the giant strides in medicine), the trust balance of Social Security could be fully depleted by 2040, according to the Social Security Administration.
The result is that only 2% of Americans will retire self-sufficiently, while the other 98% will rely on Social Security, family, and/or charity with an average monthly income of $1,250 or less.
